Cricket Formats and Competitions
T20
The fastest format — each team plays just 20 overs. BPL, IPL and the T20 World Cup are all played in this format. Results come within a few hours, making it the most popular among bettors. The situation can change with every ball, so live markets are most active here.
One Day Cricket
Each team plays 50 overs. The ICC Cricket World Cup is held in this format. Being longer than T20, tactical shifts are more frequent and mid-match momentum swings have a clear impact on betting markets. The Bangladesh Tigers' ODI performances are of particular interest to Bangladeshi bettors.
Test Cricket
A five-day contest — the most classic format of the game. Because a draw is possible, Test cricket has three-outcome markets: home win, away win, or draw. Pitch conditions, weather and the flow of innings cause odds to be reassessed every session.
BPL, IPL and International Tournaments
The most popular competition among Bangladeshi cricket fans is BPL — the Bangladesh Premier League. Alongside it, India's IPL and ICC tournaments are also open for betting at maga baji. Each tournament has its own rhythm — support for local teams runs high during BPL, while player form drives the market in IPL.
When Bangladesh Tigers play on the international stage, betting volume naturally rises. In major events like the T20 World Cup or the ICC Champions Trophy, maga baji keeps several markets open at the same time, so you can choose more than one market within the same match.
Alongside cricket, you can also bet on football and other sports at maga baji. To learn more, visit the maga baji Sports Betting page, which has the full list of sports and guides.
Cricket vs Other Sports
Cricket matches run from a few hours to five days — the situation shifts repeatedly over that time, giving many more live betting opportunities. Football matches last just 90 minutes, and with fewer goals scored, a single event can turn the result. In tennis or badminton, the odds move with every point.
In terms of betting options, cricket offers far more markets — not just the match result, but separate markets for everything from the toss to runs in a specific over to which batsman will score the most. In football, the main markets are match winner, both teams to score, and handicap.
At maga baji you can bet on football, kabaddi and several other sports besides cricket. See the Sports Betting section for details. And if you want something different from cricket, you can also try the Mega Fishing game.
Popular Betting Markets
Match Winner
The simplest market — bet on which team will win. Two outcomes in T20 and ODI, three in Test (win, loss or draw). This is the ideal starting point for new bettors.
SimpleToss Betting
Bet on which team will win the toss before the match starts. The result is completely random — a 50/50 chance. Pitch conditions or team strength have no bearing here.
Pre-MatchTop Batsman
Bet on which batsman will score the most runs in an innings or across the full match. Batting order and pitch conditions play a significant role in this market.
PerformanceTotal Runs Over/Under
Bet on whether the runs scored in an innings or by the end of a specific over will be above or below a set number. For example, whether more than 75 runs will be scored in the first 10 overs — this type of props market is very popular in T20.
Over/UnderTop Bowler
Bet on which bowler will take the most wickets in the match. The type of pitch — pace-friendly or spin-friendly — and the weather directly influence this market.
PerformanceMulti Bet
Combine multiple markets into a single bet — you win only if all selections are correct; one wrong selection and the entire bet is lost. The risk is higher, but if all selections come through, the return is much greater.
Multiple SelectionsFirst Wicket Partnership
Bet on whether the two openers will score more or fewer runs than a set number before the first wicket falls. This market lets you stay engaged right from the very start of the match.
OpeningHow to Read Odds
Odds at maga baji may be shown in three formats — decimal, fractional and American. Understanding the difference makes it easier to see the true value of a bet.
Example 1 — One price in three formats
Team A to win — bet ৳200 — the same price in three formats:
| Format | Value | What it means |
|---|---|---|
| Decimal | 2.50 | Bet × 2.50 = total return |
| Fractional | 3/2 | ৳3 profit on a ৳2 bet |
| American | +150 | ৳150 profit on a ৳100 bet |
If Team A wins, total return on a ৳200 bet is ৳500 (৳300 profit + ৳200 stake). If Team A loses, ৳200 is gone.
Example 2 — The favourite's price
Team B to win (favourite) — bet ৳200:
| Format | Value | What it means |
|---|---|---|
| Decimal | 1.50 | Bet × 1.50 = total return |
| Fractional | 1/2 | ৳1 profit on a ৳2 bet |
| American | -200 | You need to bet ৳200 to make ৳100 profit |
If Team B wins, total return on a ৳200 bet is ৳300 (৳100 profit + ৳200 stake). Negative odds mean the favourite.
Multi Bet Example
Three selections — decimal odds of 1.40, 1.70 and 1.90 respectively. Multiplied together: 1.40 × 1.70 × 1.90 = 4.52 (approximately). This means if all three selections are correct, the total return on a ৳100 bet is ৳452. If any one selection is wrong, the full ৳100 is lost. A multi bet offers a higher potential return, but all selections must come through together.
Live Betting — Betting During the Match
You can place bets even after the match has started — this is called in-play or live betting. In cricket this is especially useful because every wicket, big six or dropped catch has an immediate effect on the odds.
Say Team A scores 180 runs at the end of 20 overs — naturally Team B's odds of winning will shorten. But if Team B's top order starts falling quickly in the second innings, the odds will swing back the other way. Live betting gives you the chance to bet during these shifting situations.
In T20, markets update after every over and even after every ball. In Test cricket, pitch conditions change session by session — on the fifth day, when a spinner breaks through the batting lineup on a turning pitch, the live market can shift completely.
One important point — decisions in live betting need to be made quickly. Rather than placing large bets in a hurry, stick to the limit you set beforehand. Betting is for entertainment, and playing responsibly is the best approach.
Practical Tips for Cricket Betting
Start with one market
Starting with small bets on the match winner market makes it easier to learn how to read odds and understand results. After gaining experience across a few matches, you can gradually move to markets like top batsman or over/under.
Choose your market based on the format
In T20, the total runs market works well because scoring is fast. In Test cricket, wicket-based markets or innings outcomes are more predictable. Without adjusting your approach by format, you end up placing bets in the wrong markets for no good reason.
Set your budget in advance
Before each session, decide how much you will bet and stick to that limit. Placing larger bets to recover losses is the most common mistake. Betting is a form of entertainment — treat it that way.
Keep pitch and weather in mind
On a spin-friendly pitch, the toss and batting order matter a great deal. If there is a chance of rain, a T20 or ODI result can go either way. This information makes your betting decisions more grounded.
Be careful with multi bets
The return on a multi bet looks attractive, but all selections must be correct at the same time. A two-selection multi bet carries less risk compared to three. Large multi bets are fine for entertainment, but it is best to avoid placing large amounts regularly on them.
